One of the things I've been doing in my time away from active blogging over the past month or so is observing some of the other voices out there in the blogosphere; among them is my erstwhile nemesis,
Chuck Ross of
GLPiggy infamy. Watching his transformation from Southern Slacker to 21st Century
Archie Bunker has been the cyber-equivalent of rubber-necking to view a grisly trainwreck - you know it's not good for you, but you can't help looking at it anyway.
Ross's transformation has been painfully slow - a nod to his inherent sloth perhaps - but sure.
Over the past month alone, he has finally confirmed that he thinks Black folk are genetically inferior to Whites, lambasts single mothers (something he would know quite a bit about), takes aim at ostensibly dirty hippies, Marxists, Leftists and anyone else who would dare question the wisdom of Wall Street, and did I leave out how he feels that Blacks are inferior? This is one of his oft-repeated themes of his blog.
His most recent missive was one where he laments the fact that it is unfashionable to utter racially bigoted remarks in public and/or put up racially bigoted displays, even if under the cover of Halloween. In both instances, the offending acts were swiftly dealt with. Unlike the fictional Bunker, Chuck doesn't live in NYC, but the pain for him is all the same I suppose - recently his governor,
Rick Perry, came under fire for the
"Niggerhead" incident, one in which the Perry people literally tried to paint over. It didn't work.
At any rate, Ross moves from the aforementioned incidents in NYC, which he characterizes as "racial hypersensitivty" to attacking the messenger(s) themselves - in this case,
one Black local politico named Charles Barron. Doing a bit of quick Googling (and I suppose a bit of YouTube watching), Chuck comes to the conclusion that Barron is little more than a ne'er do well whose malfeasence is excused away by his being Black and playing the Race Card to and with his political base. Chuck then goes on to make a link to other Black political figures, most notably Dallas'
John Wiley Price and former Chocolate City mayor
Marion Barry. He makes the case that Black politicians don't deliver anything to their Black constituents; they merely use them to enrich themselves. Evoking the name of the legendary Big City politico
Boss Tweed, Chuck assures us that these Black guys are little more than two-bit hustlers and that Black folk need to wake up.
Of course, the problem in all of this is that not only is Chuck woefully wrong in his assessments - anyone who has even a smattering of historical knowledge here will know that Barry and Wiley are not comparable - but that if he wants to make the case for a group of people being
Useful Idiots,
he can start right under his own racial roof. The GOP infamously made use of the
Southern Strategy in the 1960s and 70s as a way to win votes among disaffected poor Southern Whites, pissed off that they could no longer keep Black people underfoot with
Jim Crow, which itself came about as a direct result of Black people no longer being chattels in the latter 19th century. In fact, at every turn of USA political history, we see instance after instance of poor Whites - like Chuck - being used as cannon fodder for the interests of rich landed gentry Whites. The GOP in particular, since we're talking about political history and fact here, has consistently played to and on the racial fears of poor White folk - often at the economic disadvantage of those same Whites -
and have won every single time. Yet, these are the same people who question Black folks' loyalty to the Dems? Hey, at least Black people can say that they got real, tangible bennies from voting the straight Dem ticket.
What can poor Whites like Chuck say they have gotten for voting Red?
Well, we have the answer - Chuck's Guv, Perry, has seen to it that the single biggest beneficiaries of Texas' recent jobs boom
went to illegal Mexican immigrants. Chuck would know after all -
he's worked with many of them on his waiter job for some time now. Indeed, once one leaves the western half of the country and comes east, one finds that the bulk of the country's illegal population tends to be concentrated in the Old Southern states - the same states
that got over by use of Slavery. When that no longer was feasible, and the Feds made things like getting over on Black folk next to impossible, Southern Fat Cats turned to the next best thing -
(cheap) illegal immigrant labor. Then, when those populations started to grow, they used that as a way to gin up votes among the very Poor White Trash that they were trashing -
and they went and continue to go for it, hook, line and sinker.
An excellent case in point in this regard is
the recent law passed by the once-Confederate state of Alabama against illegal immigrants. By now I am sure many of you have heard about it. What's interesting in all the hoopla about this, is the fact that no one ever raises the following point: these illegals wouldn't be here in the first place if there were no jobs to be had; who is hiring them, and
why haven't there been as much of a push on the part of the Alabama gov't to crackdown as viciously on them?
Well, to ask the question, is to answer it: the reason why is because those business interests line the pockets of the GOP, who in turn protect said business interests both locally and on K Street in DC. Sure, you occasionally hear about a
raid on a plant somewhere buried in the back pages of a newspaper, but they don't make the same kind of news that the
"Papers, Please" stories get - and there's a very important reason for that. Rich White Southerners know they can always rely on Useful Idiots like Chuck to run interference for them -
and they haven't been proven wrong yet.
Now, because I'm a fair guy and try hard to be intellectually honest, let me also say that yes, the
Clay Davis' of the world are no stranger to me or Black America, and there is indeed a goodly bit to answer for on that end. Being a Useful Idiot isn't limited to color, caste or creed, I'm sad to say - in fact, we saw a variation of this on the very comments thread to the post of which we are discussing, where everyone's favorite
Clever Little Silly was
roundly excoriated for daring to point out how and why the offending scarecrow display up in the Big Apple could be viewed as racially insensitive, to say the least. Of course, this won't disabuse her of any notions that
Mr. Charlie's romantic/sexual/marital ice is no colder than anyone else's. Hope always springs eternal.
Anyway, I digress - the point being made here, is that if Chuck is serious about who are being consistently used as Useful Idiots and why, he doesn't have to go all the way to New York City's Black sections to make such a case.
He can start by looking in the mirror.
Now adjourn your asses...
